So it's the month of serious anniversaries and benchmarks.
Firstly...it's the month I blew up. Yes way man...last November 25th I went kablam after the regulator on my propane tank popped while driving down the I-75.
It's also the anniversary of me meeting some fabulous friends who not only welcomed me as a transient white boy passing through Detroit city...but also opened their doors for my blisters and shock after el-erupto.
It's also the last time I have seen my good friend Bambalamb and his lady Miss Dellie. Unfortunately Bam took a fall and severely damaged his leg. I still haven't seen pictures but in speaking with Dellie it involved his thigh muscle, great amounts of pain and "lose your leg or not" surgery. So thankfully he got the surgery and I hope everyone joins me in wishing him better and wishing them well!
And the latest and greatest news for me is that after trying hard but having no luck AND having me sulk over her shoulder that I wasn't able to land a job on a fishing boat...Lori's connections came through after I ended up talking to a tiny 10 yr old named jessica about fishing and how she thought it was hilarious I'd never been on a boat. (as we speak I am wearing a sea sickness patch behind my ear...just in case yo)..that led to her mom hearing and suggesting a few guys...I was hopeful...then the call came through and blamo..I'm on it!! Lori has some concerns on whether or not the work will suit me...being a landlubber, a desk jockey and dainty armed and all. :) Truth is though, I appreciate that. She has worked the boat, knows the life and her warnings have been taken to heart. I am however a jovial button pushing word play kind of guy and she never really knows if I'm messing with her or not. In this case I'm not...I've listened and I will stay alert and I am keen on learning the workings of a commercial boat. The work is dangerous and cold...but it's so awesome and exactly what I was looking for here on the east coast. Why be by the ocean if you can't be on the water? Why not do it now...just because you can!! ;)
Oh yeah..name of the boat...you might never know!! ;) (for security reasons)
My new Dunlop Rubber Boots a substantial boot indeed and awesome for me because they are good to go for a winter boot as well! Which as much as I would love to deny it...is on its way sooner than later...maybe ;) |
and I certainly hope that I won't be doing that!! ;)
So excited for you, Bri!!! Congrats on the boat job!! And best wishes to Bam & family!

Thanks Al! I'm looking forward to posting some pics soon!
DeleteHey - the video was hilarious!! Been there, done that!! Brought back many memories, but a true maritimer pukes downwind, so you don't get blowback!! Seriously though Brian, I lost a really good friend a few years back on the first day of lobster fishing, when his traps shifted, and the boat capsized. There have been many lives lost at sea around here, and once you are out of the bay, it's a whole different scene out there, with waves as high as a house, especially in November. So please keep aware, keep safe. We pray for our men and women who work on the water. May your seas be calm, and your catch - bountiful. Mayor Terry James
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Terry!! I am out there with a keen eye and taking cues from the first mate. It certainly is a different scene and after only a few days my office oriented body is being humbled. :) Thanks for the safe wishes!
Deletedainty armed, eh? LMFAO...yeah...its a great day out...good first day for you...to learn on ....in your "big boy" rubber boots. starting at 3am is sucky, but that is the way it is..you will learn to respect that lobster, you gobble down, and the men...that fish it
ReplyDeleteand I will maybe learn respect for those dainty arms...
